It’s filled with lovely people who give me a completely different view point on what we read but the last few books have been re-reads for me. They’ve been bloody brilliant but they have not been light reads. It by Stephen King, To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Not cheery.<\/p>\n

The voting list for the next month came out and the theme is “not of this world”. There are loads of great novels on the list but it includes 1984 by George Orwell. It’s a great book but not a heart warming or giggle inducing tale. Our book club captain believes that people are drawn to dystopian literature in troubling times. That’s grand but I just want something fluffy and cosy. Enough is enough.<\/p>\n

I am NOT reading 1984 again. The next book I read will be by Jilly Cooper and I’m going to thoroughly enjoy it. I am going to bury my overly connected head in some gloriously trashy literature until my brain turns to candyfloss. I can’t wait.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
