I did tell you that I wanted my husband to learn the lyrics to On My Own by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald. Why do I want this? So we can lip sync it together on Christmas Day, why else? Do I hunt for presents? Yes. Did I find the lyrics on his phone linked to Spotify? This is happening, people! My dream of miming along to this classic with the beloved has expanded into a family lip sync battle on Christmas day. Yay!!!!!!
We are taking the battle very seriously. Rules are being written. Everyone will have two solo numbers, then team up for a duet and then it’s pick and mix from our lip sync battle playlist. Rehearsals are taking place with real microphones so you get used to them for your performance.
The eldest monkey is doing Super Trouper by ABBA. Middlest monkey has nailed Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now. I may do Tina’s Better Be Good To Me but Adele’s Someone Like You is a contender. If Mum competes she’d be Shirley Bassey and belt out I (Who Have Nothing).
We are all very excited by this and it’s getting competitive. I think I can edge it. I am a show-off, I can emote with the best of them and I’m great at remembering lyrics but I think I’m about to be beaten by an 8 year old who’s obsessed with Queen. Curses!
