Now we are getting serious about this Christmas thing. The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best Victorian set version of the Charles Dickens story. Oh yes, there is the line in the sand, come at me on this if you dare.
There is no messing about. This a straight telling of the tale of Ebenezeer Scrooge and how is cold, grasping, greedy heart is changed by a Christmas Eve visitation by three ghosts. He sees the error of his ways and his acceptance of the Christmas spirit into his heart changes the life of his family, his employees and all who meet him. It’s all of that and Muppets. Singing Muppets. With Gonzo as Charles Dickens.
Michael Caine as Scrooge plays it completely straight but he’s obviously outclassed by Rizzo the Rat. Rizzo is Charles Dickens’ companion and gets all the best lines. This is your chance to shout “light the lamp, not the rat” at the telly.
The tunes are fantastic, the story is top notch and it’s a classic. Gather round, singalong and get ready to feel fuzzy and fizzy.
