As will be immediately apparent from this post, I am not a coffee lover. The smell is divine. The taste, well usually I’d rather suck socks. My family mock me for my love of crap coffee. Give me a Nescafé latte in a sachet with heaps of sugar and I am a happy Pixie. The husband despairs of me.
This is the only time of year that coffee shops call to me. I want my coffee weak, milky, overly sweet and artificial tasting. Get me to Starbucks. The only thing I want is a gingerbread latte with cream. I don’t want hot chocolate, keep your toffee nut latte, give me the gingerbready goodness.
I have done my research and Starbucks is the only one for me. Costa with it’s Black Forest Hot Chocolate sounds tempting but it’s a poor substitute for cake. Caffè Nero does have better coffee and gives you room to create your own drink but it will never give you the sugar high of my beloved gingerbread latte.
This for me is a one-off treat during December. It’s way too sweet for any more than that so I plan my purchase carefully. I will make sure that I have mine on a morning when I’ve got a bit of time so I can savour it. I don’t want to be slurping a lukewarm coffee during a meeting or answer the phone between gulps. I want a cold bright morning so I can wander to work, clutching my prize while listening to Christmas tunes. You’ve got to do it properly.
Whatever your festive treat, enjoy it.
