I like food. Big fan of it. Eat it, talk about it, photograph it, plan for it, dream about it.
If we go for a conservative 1,095 meals a year, at least 225 of mine are disappointing. How do I know this? If you work a five day week with five weeks holiday and bank holidays on top there are 225 working days per year. I used to work in management, this is the stuff you learn.
I don’t take my own lunch to work. I don’t want to have to organise anything else in my life so I rely on supermarkets, sandwich shops and cafes. It’s expensive. If you get a £4 meal deal that’s £900. Go to Pret every day and that rises to around £1,700. That’s two family holidays or four mini-breaks.
And let’s talk about the food. Has a sandwich out of cardboard packet filled you with delight? No, it hasn’t? This is food as fuel and that’s sad. This isn’t about clean eating (that is a very long rant) or any other marketing ploy. This is about getting the most joy out of our daily lives as possible and a wilted cheese sandwich doesn’t cut it.
So it’s time to jazz up lunch time. A new lunch box and some new tastes. Life is too short to waste on bad food.
