I never wanted children. I made that decision early and I have never regretted it. There was a moment two bottles of wine in when I demanded little boy babies from the beloved but I sobered up rapid.
When I met my husband I knew he was separated with three kids. It was love at first sight and I knew that was going to have to deal with children. I was terrified. I needn’t have been. The monkeys were brilliant from the start. Funny, bright and they’d made their minds up to like me which was a bonus.
They immediately split their time between our house and their Mum’s. The monkeys took to their new life brilliantly. It was a huge relief. The only problem we came across was sometimes they accidentally called me Mum. Talk about a minefield. I’d done my research on this. I didn’t want to correct them and make them feel bad. I also didn’t want to upset their Mum. She’s raised brilliant monkeys and she is their mother, not me. So the monkeys and I had a chat. They could call me whatever they wanted as long as it was said with love and didn’t upset anyone. They didn’t take long to decide. I am now, and will always be, Queen Teacake.
I love being Queen Teacake. Queen Teacake is surrounded by love, laughter and chaos. Queen Teacake is kind, beautiful and amazing according to the monkeys. Queen Teacake is the luckiest Step Mum ever.
