Now, I don’t want to have to start a Fizzy obituary page but Hywel Bennett died yesterday. The beloved and I were discussing him on Sunday after seeing Dunkirk. After Tom Hardy’s excellent eyebrow acting, we moved on to Gary Oldman acting with his ears in the 2011 version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. And, then I said that as much as loved Tom Hardy as Ricki Tarr, to me Hywel Bennett did it better.

Then I was lost in a 15 minute monologue about the joy of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I love the novel. I love the BBC series with Alec Guinness, I love the film, I love BBC radio adaptation with Simon Russell Beale. I can’t think of any other work that I love so completely, in all formats. I think that is the genius of John Le Carré and what he inspires in actors and film makers.

All I can say is pick your medium and enjoy.
