I have a friend called Brian. I say friend but that doesn’t cover it. For 20 years he’s been colleague, potential boss, boss, partner in crime, fellow music aficionado and my sounding board. He gave me away at my wedding because there is no better man apart from my husband. And also, he’s 6’4″ and I’m 4’11” and it made the wedding pictures funny.
He’s inspirational. He’s a daft, intelligent, passionate, working class, hippy lefty who has the best work ethic and adores his brilliant wife. They made fantastic kids and have fabulous dogs.
He’s also an Evertonian. This I can forgive but he’s also a cyclist and that’s harder to get over but I do, because Brian is Brian. Anyway, the silly lummox cycled from Goodison to Sligo for Everton in the Community. It’s a great cause because they do fabulous work. This project is helping 16 to 23 year olds who have fallen out of the care system or on hard times. It will give them a roof over their heads and skills to help them get on. It’s just a pity there had to be so much lycra. They are still collecting donations and feel free to donate here.
