I have agreed to chair the work book club as our fearless leader is taking time off to look after his children during the summer holidays.
Although I love books and the sound of my own voice, this is not a natural fit for me. I have many opinions. I have lots. Bundles of opinions and I am willing to share them all constantly. To chair a meeting where you want other people to share their opinions you must be willing to listen, let them speak and not throw things at them when you disagree. It’s also important to read the book so you know what you are on about.
So now I have to read The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood again. I also, have to rein in my natural instinct to show off and turn any gathering into my personal audience for my divine one woman show. The thought makes me feel uncomfortable and that’s why I’m doing it. Uncomfortable means you are learning, stretching yourself and evolving. So join me in praise of the uncomfort zone.
