I joke that my personality is 97% eyeliner. I am nothing without my eyeliner. This is only because I am so used to seeing my face with all of the eyeliner on it that I think I look a little naked mole rat-esque without it.
Eyeliner is my thing. It is never not appropriate. It can be harsh rock chick kohl, it can be smokey, grungy, it can be glittery, colourful but it needs to be on my face. Most of all, it’s black flicks. It’s easy, it’s quick, it looks impressive and it kills the naked mole rat look. It’s been my go to since I was 13 but if you need a tutorial this one from Sali Hughes is one of the best.
Recommending eyeliner is a minefield because it depends on your eye shape, the amount of laughter liners and whether your eyelids need primer. I have tried them all and these are my favourites for my oily, 40 year old eyelids.
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. I use Caviar, rather than Black. It’s a tiny bit softer.
Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl. For the blackest black, Bedroom Black.
Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner. Cheap, blackest black, stays put.
Soap and Glory Supercat Liquid Eyeliner. For those of us who do not mess about and thought Amy Winehouse’s look was subtle.
And finally, if you are nervous remember this one thing – it’s make up. it washes off. Have fun.
