I married an artist. I am not an artist. Unless you class eyeliner as art and then I’m a genius.

In attempt to be arty I took the beloved to see a documentary on Hokusai, the Japanese artist best known for the Great Wave at FACT. I was slightly sneery as Japanese art has never been my thing. The documentary confirmed that I’m an eejit and know nothing. His work stretches across forms and genres and he was obsessed by the act of creating. In his 60’s he thought he may be great in his 80’s or 90’s. Not only is the work beautiful but his attitude was breathtakingly inspiring.

A trip to see the exhibition was thwarted by travel issues but you can still find the documentary on the BBC iPlayer. Watch it and enjoy the beauty.
