I love children’s books. When I give it all up and start my book shop/tea room with the bestie, you’ll find me hanging out in the children’s section reading to the kids whether they want to hear it or not.

You get immediate feedback with kids’ books. Boring, badly written, hackneyed, they ain’t sitting still. They are not giving it another 10 pages. They are gone.

Julia Donaldson is pretty reliable (I can leave the glittery princess ones) and The Detective Dog is very good. Written in verse so it’s quick for the monkeys to pick up and join in and with enough nods to the adults that you can have a chuckle while reading about Nell, the dog with detecting skills, a passion for books and social justice. Be prepared though once you’ve done a comic “sniff, sniff, sniff” once, you are doing it a thousand times.
