My husband mocks me about my war time cookery ability. Not that I can cook a meal from an ounce of liver, powdered egg and a home grown carrot, but that I can cook in a war zone.

I am daft enough to think that the chaos around me will not affect me in the kitchen. So for youngest monkey’s last birthday I did dinner for 12 and baked a cake while we had builders in removing doors and floors. Yes, I am an idiot.

And with mini monkey it’s about chocolate. CHOCOLATE. I used this recipe by Georgina Hayden. It’s a quiet show stopper. Rich, light and the coffee stops it being overly sweet. I’ll be adapting for eldest monkey’s birthday this month.

PS Stirring Slowly by Georgina Hayden is marvellous and for non-cooks pretty to look at.
