My beloved has written his first piece for the Fizzy. He has no idea how much I love him for this. Enjoy.
There are few things better than getting settled down with a brew, or tipple of your choice, just before Christmas along with the monkeys and having a good old sing along while they get giddy and scared by something wonderful. This is a tradition I have followed with all three monkeys and this year is no exception.
Tim Burton’s Christmas classic hits you smack in the face with the tunes and keeps them coming. The classic tale of Jack Skellington – the Pumpkin King of Halloween, at the top of his game, bored of the routine of Halloween and all of its trappings. All the praise and adoration of the Halloween community no longer fills him with pride – its all too easy and he yearns for a new challenge, something to replace the monotony.
His discovery of Christmas and all the festive wonder after all the boredom makes for a very alternate Christmas after jack settles on the plan to kidnap Santa and make Christmas his own, with some misunderstanding and inspiration taken from Halloween.
It’s a laugh a minute and the songs – including “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” from a soundtrack created by Danny Elfman keep young and old entertained and on the edge of their seats. I still remember the monkeys running around singing “What’s This?” from their first experience of the wonder and it really captured their imaginations.
I won’t spoil the plot too much for those who haven’t seen it yet. But all ends well and Jack gets to understand his place and what it was that was missing.
This is one of the great and fizziest pre-Christmas rituals that in our corner of the fizz-verse truly prove that Christmas is nearly here and things truly kick into high gear once the end credits roll.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good fright!
