Recently The Minimalists’ tweeted the following:

Let it go. Change the channel. Turn it off. Unsubscribe. Unfriend. Unfollow. Mute. Block. Walk away. Breathe.

A simple reminder to unplug every now and again. So far so good but no. As this was tweeted it was obviously met with comments about the irony of it being on Twitter and general snark. It got me thinking.

I spend a lot of time online. Probably more than I should. It’s not good for me as it does feed my messy brain. The worst thing is always the comments section. The need to be deliberately contrary, rude, combative and dismissive makes me unbearably sad. What can be a great place to exchange ideas becomes toxic really quickly.

So this is my reminder to myself. Writing a comment on a website is optional. You can choose not to comment. Also, reading the comments section is optional. If it makes you sad, don’t do it. As The Minimalists will remind you:

Let it go. Change the channel. Turn it off. Unsubscribe. Unfriend. Unfollow. Mute. Block. Walk away. Breathe.

Keep feeling fizzy.
